January 20, 2017 |by Acceleration | 0 Comments | 2017 Sessions

Date:  Wednesday, February 7

Time:  10:15 – 10:40

Room:  LaFitte B

Speaker:  John Curran @ ARIN

This session will have 3 parts:

  1. Case Study:  The pain and tools needed to migrate from IPv4 to IPv6
  2. What pitfalls will befall the ISP as they migrate from IPv4 to IPv6
  3. How to get resources from ARIN – ASNs, IPv6 and even IPv4

Moving to IPv6 should be a top priority for all ISPs. If you’re interested in getting address space directly from ARIN, but aren’t sure where to begin, John Curran, President and CEO of the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), will discuss how ISPs can get address space from ARIN based on current policy. He will cover the ways to qualify for ASNs, IPv6, and even IPv4. Did you know that once you register an IPv6 block, you can immediately qualify to get an IPv4 block from ARIN to help you deploy IPv6? Yes, ARIN did reach full IPv4 depletion in September 2015, but prior to this, the ARIN community reserved IPv4 address space to be issued for specific purposes well after depletion. Find out how to get your first IPv4 block from this reserve (typically a /24) and how you can get involved in the policy development process that determines how Internet number resources are managed in the ARIN region.
